Money matters at college

A week of activities aiming to help staff and students better manage their money is set to take place at Swansea College.

During Money Week [8th – 12th February] there will be workshops and interactive sessions on budgeting, student discounts, the pros and cons of storecards and avoiding debt.

“This is the time of year when a lot of bills are coming in following the Christmas period so money will be uppermost in most people’s minds,” says Student Services Manager Anne Pitman. “We all need to make the most of our budgets and hopefully, during Money Week, people will pick up some important tips on managing their money and making their pennies go even further each month.”

One highlight of the week will be a visit from Swansea University’s ‘Money Doctor’, who will lead a workshop with students.

Students will also be challenged to put together a smart interview suit with a budget of just £20 and devise a three-course menu with ingredients costing £5 or less.

Money Week is part of a national, Financial Standards Authority campaign to make people more financially aware.
