Entry Requirements

The BTEC First Applied science is for students who want to study a range of sciences in order to work primarily in a science based discipline. It is a one-year Level 2 course that is suitable for students that have achieved 3 or 4 GSCEs at grade C or less (offers made on negotiation with applicants) and allows them to achieve the equivalent of 4 A - C GCSEs. If successful, there is the potential to progress onto an AS programme after the year. The course is designed to be undertaken by candidates entering this vocational area for the first time.

Progression

Career Routes include; lab work, medical officer e.g. pathology, phlebotomy, radiology, social care, environmental and ecological work, commercial applications of science, food science, human physiology, medical physics, nursing and sports science, materials and chemical synthesis, pharmacology, laboratory work with the basic diploma or students may potentially progress to AS Science subjects in order to study on higher education in related degrees.
