Why are we merging?
Swansea College and Gorseinon College have responded positively to the Welsh Assembly Government’s agenda to transform education and training provision in Wales by entering into merger discussions.
We believe that, in bringing together two complementary, successful organisations, we would create an institution that would provide outstanding learning opportunities and experiences for young people, adults and employers in the Swansea area.
A detailed feasibility study and a subsequent due diligence exercise have been carried out. The conclusion was that there were no major obstacles to the merger and the Corporation Boards of both colleges have both voted to proceed with a merger. We envisage that the benefits arising from a merger will be:
- Improved choice
- Improved quality
- Increased participation
- Access and equality
- Increased efficiency
- Meeting future skills needs
