Scholarship Programmes

Our scholarship programme aims to assist students with exceptional academic, creative or sporting ability to develop their talents to their full potential.

Students have recently received scholarships in Sport, Languages, Performing Arts and Photography.

Many of these students have successfully moved onto Higher Education and full time employment in their area of expertise. In other cases, they are now participating at International and professional levels.

Former Sports Scholarship student Leigh Halfpenny is the most recent success story, having been selected to represent Wales at rugby. Leigh was a student at Tycoch between 2005-2007, studying four A Levels and representing Wales and the Ospreys at age group level. He is now a full time professional rugby player with the Cardiff Blues.

Scholarship students receive financial support of £500 per year to assist with the cost of participating in their chosen field. These costs can include additional tuition/coaching, kit/equipment and travel expenses/overseas trips.

Students receiving a Scholarship will also receive technical and practical support from college staff.

Application Criteria
You must be capable of winning a place on one of our full time courses. You do not have to apply for a course in the same field as your particular skills [e.g. you could attend an engineering course and gain a scholarship for your exceptional sporting ability.]

Students are expected to demonstrate high standards of behaviour, attendance and to achieve their academic potential. Scholarships are available to students on all levels of academic study.

Your Application Form
In your application you will need to demonstrate that you have the ability or potential to achieve at the highest level. For example:

  • Have you already proved yourself to be outstanding academically, creatively or on the sporting field in your school?
  • Have you been identified by your teacher as outstanding talents - a reference from your coach or teacher will be required indicating your commitment and ability
  • Can you demonstrate your motivation and commitment to your interest
  • Have you represented your county, region or country in your chosen skill?

In your application you will also need to demonstrate how the Scholarship can help you achieve or enhance your studies. For example, how additional tuition could help you develop your skills.
