Supported Studies

Recognised by Estyn as a ‘Grade One’ learning area, students with learning and/or physical needs can develop their academic, social and life skills.

Learners requiring extra help to develop their literacy and numeracy skills also benefit from a well-developed work experience programme. Basic skills are fully embedded into the timetable along with elective activities. All learners value the pastoral support provided by their personal tutors who also monitor individual progress.

Students can progress onto other courses within the area or onto a foundation course. After finishing their courses, many students progress to work or to a Social Services provision.

Students are taught in high quality classrooms in appropriate areas of the college. The department has four adapted minibuses to allow students to use community facilities.

Most of the coursework is assessed through portfolios of work. Basic skills may be assessed through test papers leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
